At Timber Creek, students have music once every three days for 55 minutes each class period.
During that time, we work on developing light singing voices, moving to music to feel the steady beat, reading rhythms and sometimes playing them on drums, and learning to read music using the Kodaly method, which uses solfa syllables like do, re, mi, etc. We play music games, sight read folk songs, sing appropriate contemporary songs from an educational music magazine, and hear and analyze music by famous composers. Fourth graders learn to play recorders.
For a more specific list, click on the Learning Targets tab.
Each class performs at some point during the year. 1st and 2nd graders will sing in a winter musical on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. 3rd and 4th graders will present a musical on Tuesday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. Kindergartners will sing sometime in May.
Looking forward to a wonderful year!
